Tooth Extractions

An extraction may be required when a tooth is severely damaged, infected, or causing overcrowding.

YOUR PATH TO A HEALTHY SMILE

What is a Tooth Extraction?

A tooth extraction is when a tooth is taken out from the jawbone.
This is a fairly common dental procedure. There are many reasons why you may need to have a tooth removed. These include gum disease, severe tooth decay, crowded teeth, a broken tooth, an abscess, and impacted wisdom teeth.

Tooth extractions are just one of the many orthodontic and cosmetic treatments available here at Bank House. To find out more, simply book your initial consultation and we will be happy to help.

Tooth Extractions FAQ

You probably have a lot of questions, so we’ve answered the most common ones.
Is a tooth extraction painful?
No, tooth extractions are usually done under local anaesthetic, which numbs the area. You may feel some discomfort after the procedure, but painkillers can help.
Soft foods such as yoghurt, soup and mashed potatoes are recommended for the first few days. Avoid hard, crunchy or chewy foods.
Contact your dentist if you experience severe pain, excessive bleeding, signs of infection (such as fever or swelling), or if you are concerned about your recovery.
Recovery time depends on the individual and the complexity of the extraction. Generally, initial healing takes a few days to a week, but full healing can take several weeks.
